COPPELIA & NUTCRACKER

Great introduction into the world of ballet for complete ballet beginners and kids who already train in dancing! At the Russian School of Ballet we draw on the rich heritage of ballet, helping to understand what is going on in the ballet production, teaching about history of ballet, composers, orchestra, dancers and practicing physical dance. Our DANCECAMPS keep kids enthralled for hours!

SO WHAT DO KIDS EXPERIENCE IN A DANCECAMP WEEK?

Remember walking into a theatre, you can hear the orchestra tuning, everyone is taking their seats with their programmes and chocolates…

EACH DAY we will watch a section of COPPELIA OR NUTCRACKER, and discuss all the music, narrative, choreography, acting and theatrical sets that create great entertainment.

In addition to daily BALLET lessons, we will have regular WORKSHOPS on turnout, flexibility, perfect point and posture.

Then IN FUN & INTERACTIVE way we will learn about the History of Ballet that evolved from the royal courts of Europe, was refined in Russia over 200 years and then made its way to France, England and America.

We also EXPLORE Anatomy, the Orchestra, Music, Dance Drama and Introductions to Movement Concepts that lead to Musical Interpretation and Choreography.

  • Extend a child’s holistic knowledge of ballet
  • Develop further body’s physical abilities: workshops on POSTURE, TURNOUT, perfect POINT
  • Keep brains and bodies active with a daily BALLET and CONTEMPORARY dance class
  • Learn to appreciate the theatrical magic of a famous ballet performance
  • Learn about the body’s ANATOMY: muscles, joints and bones that help dancers most
  • Understand good NUTRITION for health and high performance
  • Explore different instruments in the ORCHESTRA
  • Learn about ACTING for dance
  • Improve musical ear and interpretation of MUSIC for dance
  • Learn FRENCH TERMS for ballet

Numbers will be limited to ensure that each participant can enjoy the programme with adequate attention from the instructors.

We will provide PDF worksheets that parents can print out for the week. All materials are included in cost. All classes will only be offered with a minimum enrolment of 5 students. Students should have for all classes: Girls: leotard, tights or white ankle socks, ballet shoes. Boys: t-shirt, cycle shorts, white socks, ballet shoes.

Also yummy snacks for the ‘watching Ballets’ are included in cost and will help feel like we are ‘in the theatre’ .

Dance Camp FOR 5-6 Years Old

In addition to a daily dance class, children learn about and watch a famous classical ballet and explore their own creativity through exercises in pantomime and dramatic interpretation. Students also learn valuable lessons about anatomy, health and nutrition, dance history and vocabulary. Children go home with their own memories scrapbook.

Dance Camp FOR 7-9 Years Old

Similar in structure and content to Program I, but for children whose reading and writing skills are at the first or second-grade level. Includes a daily ballet class, ballet video, music, dance history, nutrition, anatomy and dramatic interpretation – and creating their memories scrapbook.
