Konstantin (short Kostya) Magazeyshchikov has trained at the best dance schools in Russia. He has performed with with reputable ballet companies like The Mikhailovsky Theatre, The St.Petersburg State Conservatory and Gordeev Russian Ballet, to name a few. He has been teaching at the Taranda’s Academy of Ballet and held Artistic Director position at the Russian Classical Theatre of Ballet in Moscow.
Kyden really likes Kostya. He feels that his teaching style is gentle and technique is very precise. The exercises he feels, make him stronger and the next day he is stiff! Kyden loves that! He is also doing the exercises in the evenings by himself, so inspired he is by Kostya.
Heath just had his first class. He liked Kostya a lot and said that it was fun but also difficult, and that he would like to carry on with both, his 2 regular ballet lessons and Boys in Action on top. He felt a bit tired, but was very happy to take part! Thank you!
In Russia, boys train separately from girls for most of their ballet careers. Ballet is a well respected career in Arts and Culture and highly valued in Russian society.
The entire attitude and approach to male dancers is different to other cultures where boys often have to push through many social obstacles to achieve their dream.
The Russian Vaganova method builds powerful, athletic dancers like Rudolph Nureyev and Michael Baryshnikov who dazzled the world with their incredible physical mastery in the 20th century.
Today, boys from all over the world audition to train in the famous ballet schools of Russia.
The Russian School of Ballet Studio is based in Johannesburg but since lockdown, we have been successfully running online classes for Ages 5 – Adults, drawing dancers from all over South Africa and as far as Australia and Japan.
