Early Career

Yana Auger has been teaching dance for over 25 years, and her passion for dance extends as far back as age six. Born in Russia, she began dancing classical ballet, and later, folk dance when she was a girl, and her passion grew with her ever-evolving skill level.

She graduated with a distinction in Dance Teaching,  Choreography and Art School Management from Novosibirsk College of Arts and Culture in 1990. While studying, she trained in the Vaganova method of classical ballet, as well as folk dance, character dance, jazz, ballroom, modern and tap. While living in the UK, she continued her ballet training and went on studying the RAD Ballet syllabus; and successfully passed the Elementary level Examination and went on to complete the Comprehensive Graded Syllabus Course for teachers.

From Belgium to the Bolshoi

Yana opened and operated her own dance school from ’93 to ’98 in Kinshasa, Congo, teaching creative dance, classical ballet, modern, jazz and more. She also enjoyed organizing end of the year performances for her students. From 2005 to 2007, Yana taught creative dance and pre-ballet classes in Tervuren, Belgium, after which she found herself in Johannesburg, where she’s been teaching ballet, creative dance, character dance and historical dance since 2008.

Dedicated to continuing to hone her own skills as a teacher, Yana attended a Classical Ballet Teacher’s Seminar in June, 2011, at the Vaganova Ballet Academy, St.Petersburg, Russia. From 2012 to 2014, she went on to study at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Moscow, Russia. She graduated from the program in April 2014 with a degree in teaching Classical Ballet and a recommendation to proceed with a PhD program.

Yana’s passion for dance can be felt in every lesson and every endeavor she chases, in her pursuit of spreading her love of ballet and working with students who share her passion.
