CULTIVATING EXPRESSION, NURTURING ARTISTRY AND INSPIRING A LOVE FOR DANCE

Karmia Postma

Karmia Postma started dancing at 6 years old in the RAD ballet syllabus. She has also trained in Spanish Dancing and Contemporary.

In 2013, at age 17, she switched to Vaganova. She loved the way ballet was explained to her. She came to understand how the body worked to help her perform at a higher standard.

As part of cultural exchange programmes, Karmia was invited to train in the Vaganova system in Latvia in 2013, Miami 2015 and Kazakhstan in 2017.

In 2017, she started training at the Russian School of Ballet.

Her most treasured of many achievements include: Qualifying for the finals in Spanish Folk Dancing at an international ballet competition in Kazakhstan (2016); 1st place for Contemporary and Ballet at Ballet Awards (2017), 1st place for a classical ballet solo at Dance World Cup (2019); distinction for her Level 5 & 6 (2019) exams with local and international examiners at RSB.

She started as an assistant teacher in 2018 and is now successfully teaching students from Creative Ballet to Level 0. She studies part-time for her BCom Financial Accounting at UNISA and does modelling for fun.

She is an excellent asset to RSB as an advanced dancer and a flourishing teacher.  And the children love her!

“ For me, Yana is the true epitome of passion, hard work and success. She plants the seeds of knowledge and wants you to grow and become successful. It’s also an inspiration to train and teach in the RSB facility – the high ceiling, mirrors, dance flooring and temperature control are hard to come by altogether in one space.”
